THE DECARBONIZATION OF INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES.

Capitalizing on the global transition towards net-zero emissions.

MARKETS

Solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and remove carbon from the atmosphere.

CLEAN POWER AND HEAT GENERATION

Nearly 30% of worldwide GHG emissions are attributed to power and heat generation and 35% of the world’s electricity is generated from coal. Biocoal, in the form of torrefied wood pellets, is the lowest-cost alternative for leveraging sunk investments in existing coal-fired power stations or district heating plants, while reducing GHG emissions by 90%.

CARBON SEQUESTRATION IN BIOCHAR

Biochar is among the five negative emissions technologies identified by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations) to limit global warming. Our biochar is a proven solution to remove carbon from the atmosphere and sequester it for hundreds of years in soils, concrete structures and building materials.

VOLUNTARY CARBON MARKET

The voluntary carbon market is distinct from the regulatory market governed by national governments. It allows organizations to purchase carbon offset credits to reach their own emissions reduction goals. Voluntary carbon credits are certified by established and recognized standards such as Puro.Earth, VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) and Gold Standard. The production of biochar allows for the generation of high-quality carbon sequestration credits, due to the longevity of carbon storage which is measured in several hundred years.

CARBON-NEGATIVE MATERIALS

Developing new and sustainable building products with the help of carbon-negative materials is an effective way to decarbonize the construction industry. In addition, biochar is the perfect additive to enhance the performance of concrete, asphalt, aggregates or thermoplastic composites.

GREEN STEEL AND METAL PRODUCTION

The metallurgical industry accounts for almost 10% of global GHG emissions. The production of steel, silicon and various other metals implies energy-intensive processes that also require carbon as a reducing agent to remove oxygen from ore. Today, the most common form of carbon used by the industry is fossil carbon from coal and coke. Green biocarbon is the perfect solution to help the metallurgical industry reach net-zero emissions.

ORGANIC SOIL AMENDMENT

When used as an amendment, biochar improves soil fertility and promotes plant growth, while reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and irrigation. It also improves crop yield by increasing soil aeration and drainage, micro-organism activity and nutrient retention.

DISCOVER OUR PRODUCTS

Airex Energy’s proprietary CarbonFX torrefaction technology transforms sawmill by-products, logging residues and forestland biomass into value-added biocarbon products.

BIOCOAL

A drop-in replacement for coal used in coal-fired power stations and district heating plants.

Biocoal, in the form of torrefied wood pellets, replaces pulverized coal injected (PCI) in blast-furnace ironmaking and is used as injection carbon for slag foaming in electric arc furnaces for steelmaking. It is also used as feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable natural gas, bio-chemicals and hydrogen production.

BIOCHAR

A sustainable solution for carbon sequestration

Biochar is commonly used as a natural and organic soil amendment. When incorporated into soils, the carbon contained in biochar can be stored for hundreds of years, preventing it from degrading and being released back into the atmosphere. Carbon can also be sequestered when biochar is used in building materials and carbon-negative concrete.

BIOCARBON

Engineered green carbon product specifically developed for the metallurgical industry.

Thanks to its high fixed carbon and low volatile matter content, biocarbon is a renewable biomass solution to decarbonize the metallurgical industry.
