METALLURGICAL APPLICATIONS

Biocarbon can play different roles in the metallurgical sector. It can replace pulverized coal injected into steel mill blast furnaces. It can be used as a reducing agent in electric arc furnaces for the production of steel and iron-silicon alloys or for the production of titanium dioxide. It can also replace coke breeze or anthracite in the production of iron pellets.

BIOCOAL

A drop-in replacement for coal used in coal-fired power stations and district heating plants.

Biocoal, in the form of torrefied wood pellets, replaces pulverized coal injected (PCI) in blast-furnace ironmaking and is used as injection carbon for slag foaming in electric arc furnaces for steelmaking. It is also used as feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable natural gas, bio-chemicals and hydrogen production.

BIOCHAR

A sustainable solution for carbon sequestration

Biochar is commonly used as a natural and organic soil amendment. When incorporated into soils, the carbon contained in biochar can be stored for hundreds of years, preventing it from degrading and being released back into the atmosphere. Carbon can also be sequestered when biochar is used in building materials and carbon-negative concrete.
